 Objects and Aims

The principal object and activity of St Patrick’s School is to advance for the public benefit Catholic education in the United Kingdom, in particular by establishing, maintaining, carrying on, managing and developing a school, offering a broad range of curriculum for pupils of different abilities, with a strong emphasis on Christian values in accordance with the school’s Mission Statement.

The aims of the School are summarised below:

  • to provide an environment which promotes Christian values in line with the Mission Statement.

  • to maintain close links with the Parish and the Catholic community and beyond.

  • to complete our transition into the Cardinal Newman Catholic Trust.
  • to continue partnership working with Catholic schools (particularly within Aquinas Group) and local schools particularly Columbus Group.

  • to continue to raise the standard of educational attainment and achievement of all pupils.

  • to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, including extracurricular activities.

  • to develop students as more effective learners.

  • to develop the School site so that it enables students to achieve their full potential.

  • to ensure that every child enjoys the same high quality education in terms of resourcing, tuition and care.

  • to improve the effectiveness of the School by keeping the curriculum and organisational structure under continual review.

  • to provide value for money for the funds expended.

  • to comply with all appropriate statutory and curriculum requirements and

  • to conduct the School's business in accordance with the highest standards of integrity, probity and openness.

Local Governor Committee Membership

The governing board has 4 main responsibilities.
These are as follows:

  • To ensure the catholicity of the school environment and curriculum. The foundation governors are responsible to the Bishop of Clifton for this
  • The governors together with the head teacher are responsible for setting the strategic direction of the school.
  • The governors hold the head teacher to account
  • The governors ensure that effective systems are in place to ensure that the school performs within budget (financial accountability)

Local Governor Committee Members:
Members of a company limited by guarantee are similar to the shareholders in a company. The role of a member is a ‘hands-off, eyes on’ role, similar to the governance role of the local authority in a maintained school. Members will have limited powers which will include the right to wind up the academy trust, amend the articles of association, appoint other members and appoint and remove one or more trustee.

The members for St Patrick's Catholic Primary School are:

The Diocescan Bishop - Right Reverand Bishop Bosco McDonald
A Member of the Clifton Diocesan Education Foundation

Governor Biographies

Joanna Deasey

I have been a member of St Patrick’s School and Parish since 2003. I joined the staff as a class teacher and became Deputy Head in 2012. I retired in 2022 and became a foundation Governor in early 2023, having previously served as Staff Governor. I have recently been elected as chair of Governors and I look forward to continuing my very happy association with the school.

I am an active member of St Patrick’s parish as a reader, extraordinary minister of communion, Parish Pastoral Council and member of the four part choir.

It has been a joy and a privilege working at St Patrick’s and being part of the learning and development of so many children. I believe passionately in Catholic education as a force for social good which encourages pupils to think and act in a way that makes their world a better place.

Charlotte Priddle

I am a qualified Primary Teacher specialising in English Language and Writing. I graduated with a BA Hons degree in Primary Education from University of the West of England. I have taught for nearly 10 years; I completed my final UWE placement in the Year 6 class at St Patrick’s in 2010-2011 and then took a couple of years away from full time teaching to care for family members.
The majority of my teaching career in St Patrick’s has mainly been working in Year 6, which I absolutely love. I’ve slowly taken on more responsibilities, such as English and PSHE Subject Leadership, joining the Senior Leadership Team, and most recently, being appointed Deputy Headteacher in 2021. I have also recently been re-elected as a Staff Governor so this will be my second term, which I am very excited about as I am passionate about the future of St Patrick’s.

Reuben Alozie

I was born and raised in London, I moved to Bristol to study. Outside of my Governor duties, I am a professional photographer that specialises in Fashion and Music. I have two children that attend St Patrick's School and I am very proud to be a School Governor. I will continue to do my best to help our school achieve excellence.

If you have any queries you wish to direct to the Board, please feel free to email the Chair jdeasey@stp.newmancatholictrust.com

Minutes of the Local Governing Committee meetings are available and can be viewed in the school office on request.

As Governors, we are elected and appointed to reflect the various sections of the community which have an interest in our school.

The Diocese appoints the school’s Foundation Governors which, as a Catholic School, make up the majority of the Governing Committee. Parents, teachers and support staff also elect Governors to represent their interests.
